THE BENEFITS OF ROSEMARY HAIR OIL
An often overlooked part of our beauty routine is our hair and scalp, but it's important to remember that a healthy scalp is key to beautiful and strong hair. A natural way to care for your hair and scalp is by using rosemary hair oil.
In this blog post, we'll dive into the benefits of rosemary hair oil and how it can improve your hair and scalp health.
ROSEMARY OIL FOR THE HAIR: A NATURAL SOLUTION
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) is an aromatic evergreen herb belonging to the Lamiaceae family, which also includes other well-known herbs such as mint, basil, lavender and sage.
The plant originated in the Mediterranean region and is today cultivated in many parts of the world for its culinary and cosmetic uses.
A popular ingredient in natural beauty and hair care products, the oil extracted from the leaves of the rosemary plant is rich in antioxidants, essential fatty acids and other nutrients that are beneficial for the hair and scalp.
BENEFITS OF USING ROSEMARY OIL FOR HAIR
1/ PROMOTES HAIR GROWTH
Rosemary hair oil can help stimulate blood circulation in the scalp, leading to better nourishment of hair follicles and thus promoting hair growth. Studies have shown that rosemary oil can be as effective as Minoxidil, a commonly used hair loss drug, but without the same side effects (see source*).
In this before/after picture you can see, Maria - founder of Mellow Mind, own results using Mellow Minds Hair Oil 1-2 times a week for 2 months.
2/ FIGHTS DANDRUFF AND DRY SCALP
Thanks to rosemary oil's antibacterial properties, it can help fight dandruff and dry scalp. It can also help maintain a healthy balance of the scalp's natural oils and reduce inflammation, leading to a healthier scalp.
3/ STRENGTHENS HAIR
Rosemary hair oil is rich in antioxidants that help protect hair from free radical damage, which can otherwise lead to hair loss and reduced hair quality. It also helps strengthen the hair's keratin structure, making hair stronger and more resistant to breakage and damage.
4/ IMPROVES HAIR SHINE AND APPEARANCE
Regular use of rosemary hair oil can help improve hair shine and texture. The oil is moisturizing and helps seal moisture into the hair, making it more supple and shiny.
HOW TO USE ROSEMARY HAIR OIL
For best results with rosemary hair oil, we recommend using the oil as a scalp treatment and following these steps:
1/ Massage the oil into the scalp: Apply 1-2 pipettes of oil in divided sections where you want increased hair growth or have delicate and dry areas. Massage with fingertips in circular motions or with Mellow Minds Scalp Gua Sha to stimulate blood circulation and promote the absorption of nutrients from the oil.
2/ Distribute the oil along the lengths: Next, distribute the oil evenly through the hair from roots to ends. Make sure to cover all areas, especially if you have dry, damaged or frizzy hair.
3/ Leave the oil: Leave the rosemary hair oil on the hair and scalp for at least 2-3 hours, or even better, leave it on overnight as an overnight scalp treatment. This gives the oil time to penetrate deep into the scalp and hair. If you have long hair, we recommend tying it up with a silk scrunchie to further protect the hair.
4/ Wash your hair thoroughly: After letting the oil work, wash your hair with a mild shampoo bar and finish with a conditioner bar to close the strands.
HOW QUICKLY WILL YOU SEE RESULTS WITH ROSEMARY OIL?
Just like anything else, it's important to use the oil regularly and follow the recommended steps for best results.
For visible results, it is recommended to use rosemary hair oil 1-2 times a week as a hair treatment. If you have very dry or damaged hair, you can increase the frequency to 2-3 times a week.
It's no surprise that we at Mellow Mind love rosemary as an ingredient and that several of our products contain organic rosemary essential oil. In addition, our Hair Serum contains rosemary water, which we've highlighted in this blog post (link).
